Volunteering with the Yakima Humane Society is a great way to improve the lives of shelter pets. Quality time has a positive and long lasting effect on the well-being of the animals in our care. Volunteering your time allows us to stay up on all the feeding, medicating, and cleaning that come with housing 150+ animals each day. Most importantly, a larger team allows us to spend more quality time with each animal in our facility. Dogs need walks, cats need socialization, and every animal needs and deserves love and attention. We want to make YHS a factory for canine and feline joy.
Meet Jaime, Yakima Humane Society's April Volunteer of the Month. Jaime and her community service specialist from Entrust volunteer at the adoption center at least once a week. She has been volunteering with YHS several months and is a valued member of the team. This sweet girl has got the magic touch when it comes to all the fur babies. Jaime never has a problem getting animals to give her cuddles and kisses. Her positive attitude is contagious for both the pets and the staff. Seeing Jaime's unconditional love for all the fuzzy faces at YHS makes a lasting impact and is helping pets become better socialized for their furever homes.

The first step to becoming a volunteer is to fill out a Volunteer Candidate Form either online or in person at the adoption center. Once your application has been submitted you will receive a confirmation email. The Volunteer team will then review you application. Once your application has been approved you will receive an email invitation to attend a two-hour Orientation & Training where you will learn about our organization, policies, procedures and receive a short animal behavior training. Upon completion of Orientation and Training you will be paired with a mentor volunteer who will mentor you through your first day of your volunteer service. Upon completion of all training, volunteers are able to set their own schedules and volunteer independently.
